BearingPoint wins port authority security deal

BearingPoint Inc. has won a $13.8 million contract from the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to provide project management support for the authority's Operation Safe Commerce Megaport Project, the company announced today.

Under the contract, BearingPoint of McLean, Va., will identify and evaluate business processes and technology solutions that can improve the security of cargo entering the United States via the two states' ports without disrupting the normal flow of trade.

The security techniques that prove most successful under the test-bed program will be recommended for implementation. In addition, BearingPoint will establish a program management office responsible for managing subcontracts.

BearingPoint's team includes JBC International Inc. of Washington and RiskWatch Inc. of Annapolis, Md.

Operation Safe Commerce is a federally funded, public-private initiative aimed at providing a test bed for evaluating container security techniques while also facilitating movement of legitimate commerce. The program is funded through grants from the Transportation Security Administration.

BearingPoint offers business consulting, systems integration and managed services to government and commercial clients. The company has more than 15,000 employees and annual sales of $3.1 billion.
