Contractors awarded roles in CDC job

Following its protest a year ago of an award to TRW Inc., Lockheed Martin Corp. has been added to a nearly $500 million contract to provide the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with enterprisewide information technology solutions and services.

Lockheed Martin and Northrop Grumman Corp., which acquired TRW, will compete for task orders under the seven-year contract. Work will include applications development and related IT support services for the agency's headquarters, as well as support to CDC centers, institutes and offices, along with employees in 47 state health departments and 45 countries.

Lockheed Martin Information Technology will manage the contract from its offices in Atlanta. The ceiling on Lockheed Martin's contract is $465 million, the company said.

The CDC originally awarded this contract to TRW in summer 2002, and Lockheed Martin protested. The agency awarded new contracts to both companies Oct. 7, giving Lockheed a chance to compete for individual task orders, a Northrop Grumman spokeswoman said. Northrop's seven-year contract has a value of up to $501 million, she said.
