Texas re-ups ACS for children's health insurance services

Affiliated Computer Services Inc. has won a one-year, $28 million contract extension from the Texas Health and Human Services Commission for services for its children's health insurance program, the company announced this week.

Under the contract, ACS of Dallas will continue to provide member application, eligibility determination, enrollment, call-center services, correspondence, premium calculation and collection and Web-site services to support the program.

The contract, initially awarded to ACS in September 1999, includes provisions allowing for two one-year extensions at the customer's option. The program is driven by ACS' INFORM, a menu-driven, client-server system that supports these processes using an intuitive graphical user interface.

Harvey Braswell, group president of ACS state health care solutions, said the company enrolled 429,000 children in the program during the first 17 months of operation, more than any other state in a comparable period, he said.

ACS is a provider of business process and information technology outsourcing services to commercial and government clients. The company has about 40,000 employees and had annual sales of $3.7 billion in 2003.
