IBM, Raytheon team up for defense solutions

Collaboration will pair Raytheon's expertise in defense electronics with IBM's specialty in chip design, networks.

IBM Corp., Armonk, N.Y., and Raytheon Co., Lexington, Mass., have partnered to pursue more defense work, the companies announced today.

The collaboration will pair Raytheon's expertise in defense electronics with IBM's specialty in chip design and network implementation.

IBM expects the partnership to generate as much as $100 million in additional work over the next five years, in both the defense and aerospace fields.

"Aerospace and defense are becoming increasingly reliant on the ability to integrate advanced technology" into commercial products, said Pat Toole, general manager of IBM's engineering and technology services division. "Now combining many of our skills, our goal will be to deliver designs even quicker."

The companies will create a joint office to oversee projects and handle customer service.
