Boeing, SAIC choose subcontractors for Future Combat Systems

Boeing Co., Chicago, and Science Applications International Corp., San Diego, have picked a core team of subcontractors for the $14.9 billion Future Combat Systems contract, Boeing announced today.

Among the winners are BAE Systems plc., Dynamics Research Corp., General Dynamics Corp., Lockheed Martin Corp., Northrop Grumman Corp. and Raytheon Co.

"From the beginning of our involvement with FCS, we aimed at assembling an industry team composed of the best in the business," said Dennis Muilenburg, a Boeing vice president and FCS program manager.

The team has identified more than 100 companies to work on the project. The team consulted with the Army and other government agencies to develop the source selection plan.

In May, Boeing and SAIC won the lead contractor role in building the Future Combat Systems, an Army program to develop 18 manned and unmanned ground and aerial vehicles and sensors, along with a network to connect them together and to other military systems. The vehicles eventually will replace the Army's fleet of tanks and assault vehicles, such as the Abrams tanks and Bradley Fighting vehicles.
