BAE Systems wins $10 million antenna contract

BAE Systems North America Inc., Rockville, Md., has won a $10.5 million contract from the Navy to provide 10 antennas and supporting equipment, the company announced this week.

The antennas will be used as part of the Air Traffic Control Radar Beacon System, which the Navy will use on aircraft carriers and destroyers to identify aircraft. The Navy will receive six antenna packages, while the Republic of Korea will receive three and Japan one.

Each antenna group consists of an antenna, an antenna position programmer and a below-deck control unit. Each stationary antenna is made up of 64 elements grouped in a circle around the ship's mast. The antenna scans a full 360-degree radius around the ship and can home in on any position within microseconds, according to the company.

BAE System's Information and Electronic Warfare Systems unit in Nashua, N.H, will provide the antenna packages. The work is to be completed in December 2005. The Naval Air Systems Command is the contracting activity.
