NYC Fire Dept. taps PlanGraphics for online mapping

PlanGraphics Inc. has won a two-year contract from the New York City Fire Department to provide an online mapping system, the company announced today. The contract value was not disclosed.

Under the contract, PlanGraphics of Frankfort, Ky., will develop an intranet mapping system that will deliver thematic and information maps over the fire department's existing intranet.

The project will be conducted in two phases. The first phase will produce thematic maps that are currently delivered on paper, such as the dialing training schedule and unit availability.

The second phase will include thematic mapping of performance statistics for the fire and emergency management administrative districts and other maps such as detailed street maps.

PlanGraphics, which will supply support and maintenance following system development, plans to use ArcIMS software developed by Environmental Systems Research Institute Inc. of Redlands, Calif., and a database developed by Oracle Corp. of Redwood Shores, Calif.

PlanGraphics, a provider of systems integration and implementation to the public and commercial sectors, has more than 60 employees and had annual sales of $8.2 million in 2002, according to Hoover's Online of Austin, Texas.
