IBM wins $801 million child support contract

IBM Corp. has won an eight-year, $801 million contract from the California Department of Child Support Services to provide a child support collection system, the company announced today.

Under the contract, IBM of Armonk, N.Y., will build, operate and manage the California Child Support Enforcement System.

IBM will be responsible for system architecture and operations, infrastructure, help desk and overall project management.

The statewide computer network will allow authorized state child support professionals to track and locate parents who are not making child support payments required by law and will enable more efficient collection and distribution of support payments.

IBM's subcontractors on the project are Accenture Ltd. of Hamilton, Bermuda, and American Management Systems Inc. of Fairfax, Va.

Accenture will lead the application development and maintenance efforts for the new child support system, including the design, build, test and user training phases. AMS will lead system implementation in the counties, performing the data conversion, change management, local interface and onsite support services.

IBM has more than 355,000 employees and annual sales of $81 billion.
