CMS re-ups ViPS for Medicare software services

ViPS won a contract renewal from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to continue providing software services for a substantial portion of the agency's Medicare claims, the company announced July 7.

The value of the new agreement, which runs through September 2006, was not disclosed.

Under the contract, ViPS of Baltimore will continue to act as system maintainer for about one-fourth of the Medicare Part B claims as well as all claims for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies.

ViPS is one of two standard system maintainers supporting Part B, and is the sole standard system maintainer for durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies.

CMS also has negotiated an agreement with ViPS to extend its use of SuperOp, a rules-based, auto-adjudication systems, to all four of its durable medical equipment, prosthetics, orthotics and supplies regional carrier sites, the company said.

The contract calls for four updated software releases each year, addressing the legislative and regulatory changes in requirements as defined by CMS.

ViPS, a provider of healthcare business intelligence solutions, has more than 350 employees and annual sales of $50 million, said Jana Von Bramer, a company spokeswoman.
