HSD advises on technology ideas

The Homeland Security Department's Science and Technology Directorate has received more than 500 e-mail messages to science.technology@dhs.gov, many offering research proposals for homeland security projects, Charles McQueary, the department's undersecretary for science and technology, told the House Select Committee on Homeland Security.

McQueary said he reviews all the e-mails, answers some and passes others to his staff. He said a working group will review some of the messages, and the directorate will follow the recommendations of the group.

The directorate also will receive proposals for research work via a broad agency announcement issued by the Pentagon's Technical Support Working Group at http://www.tswg.gov . The BAA calls for proposals in fields such as statistical data mining of network traffic and modeling of computer networks.
