Five win $1.2 billion in defense work

Five companies won a spot on a $1.26 billion contract to help develop techniques of thwarting weapons of mass destruction.

The winning companies of the Weapons of Mass Destruction Defeat Technology contract are Applied Research Associates Inc., Albuquerque, N.M.; Cubic Applications Inc., Lacey, Wash.; Science Applications International Corp., San Diego; SRS Technologies Inc., Newport Beach, Calif.; and Titan Corp., San Diego.

The indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity contract was awarded May 1 by the Defense Department's Defense Threat Reduction Agency.

The companies will support the agency's technology development directorate in new technologies to counter chemical, biological, radiological, nuclear and high-explosive attacks, according to market research firm Federal Sources Inc., McLean, Va.,

"Our overarching job is to support DTRA's mission by providing real world solutions," said M.S. "Sandy" Sandhu, SRS chief executive officer.

For the contract, SRS will offer services in systems engineering, modeling and simulation, and characterizing the effects that weapons of mass destruction have on facilities, equipment and operations.
