Keane Lands $127 Million Air Force Deal

Keane Federal Systems won a 10-year contract worth up to $127 million Aug. 3 from the Air Force Materiel Command to provide information systems design and integration services in support of part of the Integrated Logistics System Supply Program.

Keane Federal Systems, a subsidiary of Keane Inc. of Boston, will be upgrading a 30-year-old legacy supply system, said Sumeet Shrivastava, managing director of the group. The program will follow a component development approach, where a new portion of the system "will migrate in, take that portion of the legacy and sunset it," he said.

"The system itself is the retail supply system for the Air Force, deployed across all Air Force bases, as well as for all missions, whether peacekeeping or warfighting," Shrivastava said. The new, Web-based system will be used in about 100 Air Force and NATO locations and another 200 satellite locations by some 50,000 users, he said.

Work has already begun on the contract, Shrivastava said. The first steps will be to develop a prototype component to demonstrate that it can integrate easily into the legacy environment and to set priorities for the components to be developed, he said.

At its peak, Keane Federal Systems will have more than 50 people assigned to the development effort. Work will be carried out at Gunner Annex, Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Ala., and at a Java development center in Atlanta.
