EDS, EzGov Build U.K. Online Tax System

Find opportunities — and win them.

In 12 weeks, Electronic Data Systems Corp. of Plano, Texas, and EzGov Inc. of Atlanta implemented an Internet tax filing system for United Kingdom citizens, EDS announced.

Now U.K. citizens can file "any time, any place" tax returns, easing the process for themselves and for Inland Revenue, the United Kingdom's tax collection agency. The work for Inland Revenue is worth millions for EDS, a spokeswoman said.

"EDS and EzGov have worked closely together for more than a year in multiple venues," said Al Edmonds, president of EDS Federal. "With Inland Revenue, we took the best knowledge and skills from all three organizations and combined them into an integrated team with the ability to design, develop and implement e-government systems at a pace never before possible, creating an outstanding capability for our customer."

Inland Revenue can update and change the software quickly and seamlessly, lessening system downtime. The software design will also reduce Inland Revenue support costs, resulting in higher customer efficiency and improved customer service, according to EDS.

The Internet filing system uses EzGov's FlexFoundation suite of software products, a software platform for Web-based e-government applications. EzGov software was chosen because it enables citizens and the government to communicate quickly and easily, said Barry Glassberg, director of e-services for Inland Revenue.

EDS and EzGov are working together on several other opportunities in the international and U.S. federal, state and local government areas, EDS said.
