STATES OF OPPORTUNITIES

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice purchasing and leases department, information technology support branch, has a need for offender monitoring and tracking technology. A solicitation is to be released in mid-2001. The department wants information on technology that includes, among other things, radio frequency and voice and group monitoring devices.

The state of Washington Center for Information Services, on behalf of state colleges and universities, is releasing a request for proposal for solutions for migrating legacy administrative applications to a modern platform and database. A solicitation is expected to be released in the second half of 2001.

The existing financial, payroll and personnel and student management systems were redeveloped internally and implemented on HP3000 equipment in the mid-1980s. Since then, the administrative application systems have been extensively customized to meet the colleges' unique needs. Several third-party modules have been integrated with the system, and a project is under way to develop a data warehouse for use with end-user reporting.

The lottery division of the Colorado Department of Revenue plans to procure online game products and services. A solicitation is expected in 2003 at the earliest.

The Colorado lottery is interested in new products, services and technologies in online gaming that were not available when the previous contract was awarded in 1995. The lottery division has released a request for information regarding this project.

The New Jersey Office of Telecommunications and Information Systems plans to release a request for proposal for development and implementation of a statewide radio communication system. A solicitation is expected in mid-to-late 2001.

The telecom office is conducting a study of this project. Pending the study recommendations, the office plans to release one or two RFPs for the radio system. The office has indicated the system most likely will be digital 800 MHz radio communication.
