Best Single Deal
- Buyer: Providence Equity Partners
- Seller/Target: SRA International
- Advisers: Houlihan Lokey for SRA
- Value: $1.9 billion
This acquisition stood out for several reasons. First is the
price tag, but that may have the least to do with its
importance. SRA's stock price had faltered which made it
vulnerable to a takeover. The company had tried to push
into new areas, particularly higher-end systems engineering
work, but that move wasn’t bearing fruit. Strategic buyers
were interested but Providence came in with the highest bid
and a promise to keep SRA’s name, value and culture intact.
The acquisition also allowed it to bring in new leadership
with CEO Bill Ballhaus replacing Stan Sloane.
