    Northrop Grumman has won an $71 million undefinitized contract for its Global Hawk unmanned aircraft system from the U.S. Air Force.

    The award is an add-on to a previous Lot 10 contract for block load and production acceptance infrastructure, Northrop Grumman said in a release.

    Nine small businesses have won a $675.1 million task order contract with the Air Force to provide acquisition support advisory and assistance services to Air Force Life Cycle Management Center’s PEO-directorates and functional support offices

    • Business Technologies and Solutions Inc.

    The contract contains cost-plus-fixed-fee, firm-fixed-price and cost reimbursable contract line item numbers, the Defense Department said in a release.

    Work is to be performed mainly at Hanscom Air Force Base, Mass.

    A consortium of technology giants: Cisco Systems, IBM, Citrix, Juniper Networks, VMWare, Microsoft, Red Hat, Intel, Brocade, Big Switch Networks and Arista Networks are teaming to invigorate software-defined networking.

    Known as SDN, software-defined networks should reduce the amount of networking gear needed in data centers by using software that is centralized on the servers.
