Opie Taylor helps launch Consumer Financial Protection Bureau

Actor and director Ron Howard is lending a hand to the newly formed Consumer Financial Protection Bureau by narrating an animated video introducing the agency.

CFPB was created by the Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act, which President Barack Obama signed in July 2010. The bureau, part of the Treasury Department, is led by Elizabeth Warren. The agency will not have any legal authority in policing financial matters until July 21, 2011, but in the meantime, it launched its website, ConsumerFinance.gov, Feb. 3, as announced by Warren in a post on Treasury's blog, "Treasury Notes."

"We wanted to launch the website NOW for one very important reason: It’s our first step in a conversation with you," Warren wrote. "We’ve even created this video, with the help of our friend, Ron Howard, to introduce ourselves."

Howard has plenty of narration experience. He narrated the TV show "Arrested Development" from 2003 to 2006. He also starred as Fonzie's best friend Richie Cunningham on "Happy Days" and appeared on "The Andy Griffith Show" as Opie Taylor from 1960 to 1968. He has directed many movies, including "Apollo 13," "A Beautiful Mind" and "Cocoon."
