Northrop Grumman has won a $8.5 million contract to provide the Air Force with research and development support.

Northrop Grumman has won a $8.5 million contract to provide the Air Force with research and development support.

The company will be supporting the Advanced Starting Infrared Search and Track Technologies program.

The program is intended to identify, mature and demonstrate technology solutions supporting the development of a future airborne long-range offensive infrared search and track capability based on non-scanned system configuration, the Defense Department said in a release.

Work will be performed at Linthicum Heights, Md., and is expected to be completed in September 2019.
