Who won May's biggest contracts?

Contract activity picked up a bit in the fifth month of 2015, with May seeing some pretty substantial awards come to market with ceilings in the billions of dollars.

Washington Technology covered 43 awards during May, compared to 41 in April; however, while May saw a modest increase in the number of awards from last month, this month’s 41 awards pales in comparison to May 2014’s 63 awards.

This continues a trend that began in January with year-over-year comparisons not quite holding up.

However, some huge contracts were still awarded this month. To make the top 10 list in May, you had to have won a contract worth more than $192 million. 

Four Top 10 contracts are multiple awards, and four were awarded by the Army. One award was a state government contract. The rest were awarded either by the Navy or the Air Force.

10. Alion wins $192M contract to support Naval Sea Systems Command

Alion Science and Technology has won a $192 million contract to support the Naval Sea Systems Command.

9. HP Enterprise Services wins $305M contract to support state welfare system

HP Enterprise Services has won a $305 million contract to continue to manage the welfare eligibility determination system of California’s Welfare Client Data Systems consortium.

8. Insight Public Sector wins potential $543.7M BPA to sell Microsoft software licenses

Insight Public Sector has won a potential $543.7 million blanket purchase agreement to provide the renewal of existing software assurance and new Microsoft software licenses.

7. Nineteen win spots on $634M Army R&D contract

The R&D contract has a ceiling of $634 million and will be used by the government to buy services such research, development, testing and evaluation.

6. SAIC to provide training under $727M FAA contract

SAIC has won a $727 million contract with the Federal Aviation Administration to provide all training and training program support services.

5. Lockheed Martin wins $735.5M satellite sustainment contract

Lockheed Martin has won a $735.5 million contract to provide the Air Force with satellite sustainment.

4. Army taps 21 to be on $1.1B maintenance procurement

The equipment related services contract has a $1.1 billion ceiling and will be used for maintenance, repair and overhaul, equipment modification and technical representative services.

3. Army names 26 to $1.8B knowledge-based services contract

The largest of the three contracts is for knowledge-related services. It has a ceiling of $1.8 billion over five years.

According to an Army Contracting Command document, the knowledge-based services include items such as program and project management and administration, engineering and technical services, logistics management, management support and professional services.

2. Harris scores $3.9B rifleman radio contract

Harris has won a 10-year $3.9 billion contract to provide the Army with Rifleman radios and associated services under the Joint Tactical Radio System Handheld, Manpack and Small-form Fit program.

1. Air Force names 20 to $7.9B NetCents 2 NetOps contract

The Air Force has made another round of NetCents 2 awards, this time for the $7.9 billion, full-and-open portion of the agency’s NetCents network operations and infrastructure contract.
