Reporting rule on transaction data gets public hearing

The General Services administration is planning a public meeting at its headquarters on the topic of the Transactional Data Reporting Rule.

The rule would require vendors to electronically report the price that the federal government paid for an item or service bought through one of GSA’s acquisition vehicles. The rule is meant to lower acquisition costs and reduce duplication of federal contract vehicles.

In a release, GSA said that the current lack of transparency on prices paid by federal buyers in other categories of government spend has led to significant price variation—sometimes 300 percent or more—for identical purchases from the same vendor.

The day will include discussions with senior acquisition officials from GSA and the Office of Management and Budget and will also include stakeholder presentations made to GSA, OMB and the public.

Among the speakers are:

• Kevin Youel-Page, deputy Federal Acquisition Service commissioner, GSA
• Mark Lee, deputy director of the Office of General Services Acquisition Policy, Integrity, and Workforce, GSA
• Stephanie Brown, facilitator, Performance Improvement Council

The meeting will take place at GSA Headquarters from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. eastern time on Friday in the first floor auditorium at GSA headquarters at 1800 F Street NW, Washington, D.C.
