Lockheed to support Iraqi air defense under $8M contract

Lockheed Martin has won an $8 million sole source contract with the Air Force to provide sustainment support for the Iraqi air defense system.

The Iraqi air defense system provides the Iraqi Air Defense Command with situational awareness of the country’s airspace and a baseline tactical radar and threat intercept capability.

This capability provides Iraq with the ability to contribute to regional air defenses and reduce its vulnerability to air attacks and also enhance interoperability between the Government of Iraq, the U.S., and other allies, according to a Defense Security Cooperation Agency release.

Under the contract, Lockheed Martin will provide spares, a logistics management system, remote access capabilities, and facility upgrades, according to the Defense Department.

Work will be performed in both the United States and Iraq and is expected to be completed by May 31, 2016.
