Navy considers consolidating data centers to save money

The Space and Naval Warfare System Command wants to consolidate the Navy’s more than 200 legacy data center systems into roughly 20 enterprise centers.

The Space and Naval Warfare System Command wants to consolidate the Navy’s more than 200 legacy data center systems into roughly 20 enterprise centers.

In planning for such an overhaul, SPAWARSYSCOM is gathering industry options for how to do that. In a new request for information, the command asked about customer relationship management toolsets. A CRM toolset should support Navy’s strategic IT decisions, financial planning and measurement capabilities, budget justification, and cost performance analytics.

SPAWARSYSCOM also wants industry ideas on how to proceed on the project, best practices and feedback about the delivery of a CRM for IT business management.

At this point, the Navy is only gathering information.

The Navy said it is bench-marking the consolidations’ success on meeting the department’s cost-savings goal in the Future Years Defense Plan.

SPAWARSYSCOM released its RFI Feb. 17. Responses are due by March23.
