Boeing wins $60.4M contract for F-18 infrared tracking systems

Boeing has won a $60.4 million sole source contract to provide the Navy with six low-rate initial production infrared search and track (IRST) systems for the F-18E/F Super Hornet.

The Super Hornet is a twin-engine, carrier-capable multirole fighter aircraft that is manufactured by Boeing.

The IRST system is a long-wave infrared detection system that targets airborne vehicles in a radar-denied environment, according to the Defense Department.

Work will take place in Orlando, Fla., St. Louis, Miss., Santa Ana, Calif., and Irvine, Calif., and is expected to be completed by August 2017.
