GSA dreams about innovations for new SmartPay program

While the contracts for General Services Administration’s SmartPay 2 program stretch into 2018, agency officials already are planning for new and more innovative payment solutions for upcoming iterations of the program.

GSA wants end-to-end solutions for payments on a governmentwide scale, innovative ways to make payments efficient beyond plastic charge cards, streamlining payment processing, identifying cost savings, and capturing data on card usages.

GSA envisions the SmartPay program to include as mobile payments, electronic wallets and digital currency. It wants improved customer experience through better service support and tools, as well as greater responsiveness to evolving needs related to data reporting and compliance.

GSA wants to develop partnerships in program management, control and oversight to reduce waste, fraud, and abuse. It’s also considering innovations to meet unique government requirements, related to data and risk management, and putting innovative products in place to boost security.

GSA plans to issues a drafter request for proposals and then an RFP in 2016. It intends to award the contracts in 2017.

GSA released its request for information on SmartPay Dec. 9. Responses are due by Jan. 22.
