Harris wins $20M contract to support NOAA weather data

Harris Corp. has won a $20 million contract to support NOAA’s Geostationary Weather Satellite Antenna System program.

Under the contract, Harris will provide its WxConnect products that NOAA will use to receive and process satellite weather observations from the NOAA Geostationary Operational Environment Satellite R-Series Rebroadcast and Japanese HimawariCast services, the company said in a release.

The WxConnect product provides users the capability to receive satellite weather data in real time. This includes imagery, lightning detection, space weather monitoring and atmospheric measurements for the western hemisphere, Harris said.

HimawariCast receives and processes the re-transmission from the just-launched Himawari 8 satellite.
