AAI Corp. to assist Navy with unmanned minesweep system

AAI Corp. has won a potentially $118.1 million contract to support the Navy’s Unmanned Influence Sweep System (UISS).

AAI Corp. has won a potentially $118.1 million contract to support the Navy’s Unmanned Influence Sweep System (UISS).

The base value of this cost-plus-incentive-fee contract is $33.9 million.

Targeting acoustic, magnetic and magnetic/combination mine types, the UISS allows for littoral combat ships to perform their mine warfare sweep missions, satisfying the Navy’s need for a mine clearance capability, the Defense Department said in a release.

Work will be performed in Hunt Valley, Md., Slidell, La., Hauppague, N.Y., Columbia, Md., and Lemont Furnace, Penn., and is expected to be completed by March 2017.
