Smart grid opportunities fuel M&A deal

Causam Energy Inc. has acquired Power Analytics Corp. in a move that brings Causam software and professional services capabilities for smart grid opportunities as well as a number of large government customers.

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

Founded 25 years ago, San Diego, Calif.-based Power Analytics develops and supports electrical power system design, simulation and analytic software.

The company’s customers include the FAA, Navy, the Defense Department and its Environmental Security Technology Certification Program, National Geospatial Intelligence Agency and the Army Corps of Engineers, said Causam chief financial officer David Bass.

Power Analytics will help Causam tackle problems that will come with the impending next generation energy grid, said Causam CEO Joe Forbes.

The company’s Paladin platform will help develop additional applications covering real-time communication, advanced energy settlements, distributed generation and intelligent analytics, Causam said in a release.

Power Analytics’ president and CTO will join Causam as chief operating officer, with Causam’s CEO, CTO and CFO expanding their roles to preside over both companies. Power Analytics will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary of Causam.
