President Obama’s defense IT budget request might be trimmed by $500 million under a bill that was recently approved by the Senate Appropriations Defense Subcommittee, according to FCW.com.
The 3 percent trim would be made in order to better address non-cybersecurity IT investments, FCW said, reallocating research and development money for a variety of defense programs. One such program entails a $15 million increase to STEM education for military children from preschool through 12th grade.
Another $75 million would go toward helping small businesses develop advanced national security technologies. The full Senate Appropriations Committee is scheduled to vote on the bill on July 17, FCW reported.
