When the private equity group Behrman Capital added Tresys Technology to its portfolio of companies, it added a strong player in the cybersecurity and intelligence portion of the government market.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed, but the pickup was considered a strong enough deal to be named the best intelligence related deal of 2013 in Washington Technology’s annual M&A Special report.
The company has a combination of services and products that is considered very attractive in today’s market, where intellectual property and differentiation are considered extremely valuable.
On the services side, Tresys brings secure information sharing, operating system security and mobility, systems assurance and cybersecurity consulting.
Its product offerings include Tresys MobileFortress for Android, which is a highly secure version of Android for mobile devices. It helps protect against spoofing, malware, greyware, rooting and other attack vectors on mobile devices.
The company also has Tresys XD Air, the only approved solution for sanitizing and transferring data via portable media.
Another offering is the XD Bridge, which allows for cross domain data sharing in the defense and intelligence space.
In addition to the defense and intelligence markets, Tresys also is active in the market for critical infrastructure protection such as power and transportation.
The company is led by CEO Robert Stalick, and with the acquisition by Behrman Capital, retired Gen. Peter Pace came on board as chairman. Pace also is the chairman of Behrman’s Pelican Products company and a board member of ILC Industries, another Behrman property.
