Lockheed Martin wins $34M contract to upgrade Cobra helicopters

Lockheed Martin has won a $34 million contract to help the Navy upgrade its Cobra attack helicopters.

The company will provide the Navy with AN/AAQ-30(A) Target Sight Systems and data, which will be integrated into the AH-1Z Cobra attack helicopter. The work is part of the Marine Corps H-1 upgrades program for the remanufacture of older aircraft with new technology. The work will convert the existing fleet of AH-1Ws to AH-1Zs, the Defense Department said.

The target sight systems will provide target identification and tracking and passive targeting for integrated weapons.

Work will be performed in Orlando, Fla., and Ocala, Fla., and is expected to be completed by May 2016.

Funding in the amount of $31.1 million is obligated at the time of the award, and will not expire at the end of fiscal 2014.
