Austal USA wins $8.2M option to support littoral combat ships

Austal USA LLC has won an $8.2 million option with the Navy to support littoral combat ships and provide them with core class services.

Austal USA LLC has won an $8.2 million option with the Navy to support littoral combat ships and provide them with core class services.

Under the option, Austal USA will assess engineering and production challenges, as well as evaluate the cost and schedule risks from affordability efforts to reduce littoral combat ship acquisition and lifecycle costs, the Defense Department said.

Work will be performed in Mobile, Ala., and Pittsfield, Mass., and is expected to be completed by November 2014.

Funding in the full amount of the option is obligated at the time of the award, and will not expire at the end of fiscal 2014.
