Microsoft is planning to launch Windows Azure U.S. Government Cloud, which will be a community cloud for state, local and federal government agencies hosted in Microsoft data centers, according to GCN.
Microsoft’s cloud offering is similar to its Office 365 platform, which hosts messaging, collaboration and office productivity software, GCN quoted Susie Adams, Microsoft’s federal chief technology advisor, as saying.
The company is aiming to offer agencies the option to use a cloud environment of their choosing, be it on-premise, private, public or government community cloud, as well as enabling users to move workloads from one environment to another, GCN reported.
