Lockheed wins $10M contract to modernize Aegis Combat System

Company will also modernize MK 59 Decoy Launcher System

Lockheed Martin Mission Systems and Training has won a $9.9 million contract modification with the U.S. Navy for modernization testing efforts in support of the Aegis Combat System on the USS Fitzgerald.

The company will also provide modernization testing efforts toward the MK 59 Decoy Launcher System onboard the same ship.

The Aegis Combat System is an integrated naval weapons system that uses computers and radars to track and guide weapons to destroy enemy targets.

Work will be performed in San Diego, Calif., Norfolk, Va., Moorestown, N.J., Washington, D.C., Port Hueneme, Calif., Bath, Maine, and Pascagoula, Miss., and is expected to be completed by September 2013.

Funding in the full amount of the contract is obligated at the time of the award, and will expire at the end of fiscal 2013.
