Has Facebook taken big data too far?

Analyzing big data has proven to be helpful for companies trying to understand their customers, or improving internal efficiencies, but is a company like Facebook, whose customers willingly uploaded tons of personal data, justified in its exploitation of what it knows about you?
The service is free, so in order to turn a profit, the company sells advertising based on the data that they collect from member profiles, SmartDataCollective reported; however, the issue is with what USAToday uncovered—that Facebook tracks you across the web.
All of the data that Facebook collects poises the company to sell such information to third party advertisers in exchange for their business. Has Facebook stepped over the line with how it uses big data?
