Lockheed wins $104M contract for GPS sustainment

Lockheed Martin has won a $104 million contract with the U.S. Air Force Space Command Space and Missile Center to sustain the ground control segment for the GPS satellite constellation.

Period of performance is from January 2013 through June 2019.

Crucial to sustaining the nation’s space superiority, the GPS mission ensures the availability of precise position, navigation and timing signals for users worldwide, and across many domains, the company said.

Lockheed Martin will provide sustainment for the GPS control segment, which lets the Air Force Space Command 2nd Space Operations Squadron perform on-orbit operational control of the satellite constellation, the company said.

To this end, Lockheed Martin will provide organizational and depot sustainment support, including command and control ground systems support, systems engineering, hardware and communications engineering, space vehicle and ground equipment simulation, software testing and hardware maintenance.

Lockheed’s team includes a number of small businesses:

• Arctic Slope Research Corp.
• ISYS Technologies
• Overlook Systems Technologies
• Tigua Technology Services

These small businesses will perform hardware engineering, software test, technical order management and systems administration functions.

The Ogden Air Logistics Center is also on Lockheed’s team, and will provide depot level software maintenance and test support, Lockheed Martin said in a release.
