DHS delays FirstSource II awards again

The first FirstSource contract accounted for around 10 percent of DHS spending in fiscal 2010

In an update on Dec. 19, The Homeland Security Department has extended its deadline until March to award the last of the FirstSource II contracts, according to a Washington Business Journal article.

This extension comes after an update two days earlier, on Dec. 17, that said the department would make awards in the “near future,” but not during the week of Christmas. The update hinted at awards being made in early January 2013, but the most recent update on Dec. 19 had the department asking bidders to approve a request that would extend the validity of their proposals an additional 180 days, to the beginning of March, the Business Journal said.

The contract was supposed to have been awarded by June 2012, but it missed its original deadline. The department has made some awards between August and November to small businesses located in HUBzones and service-disabled, veteran-owned small businesses, the Washington Business Journal report.
