Accenture nabs $250M contract to streamline transportation IDs

Transportation Worker Identification Credential will be first program to be transitioned

Accenture Federal has won a five-year, $250 million contract with the Transportation Security Administration to streamline its identity management and credentialing system processes.

These processes are meant to verify and manage millions of identities for those working at sensitive and secure areas throughout the U.S. transportation system, Accenture said.

Meant to consolidate credentialing platforms, the system will also include case management and customer relations management.

Many programs already exist to issue credentials and manage identities for transportation workers, Accenture said, but the new processes that it is creating will consolidate these programs into one system.

Once consolidated into a single, streamlined system, credentialing for new and existing transportation sector workers will be improved, the company said. Additionally, a single program will increase consistency of information across multiple programs and provide improved customer service to applicants.

First on the list of programs to be transferred is the Transportation Worker Identification Credential, which is used to secure the nation’s maritime transportation system using biographic and biometric credentials.

These include fingerprints and other identification measures required for access into secured areas of certain facilities and vessels.
