Harris appoints former Army general to its board

Harris Corp. has appointed recently retired U.S. Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Peter W. Chiarelli to its board of directors, the company announced this morning.

Chiarelli retired from the military earlier this year, having served for almost 40 years. He held the position of Army vice chief of staff from 2008 until retirement.

He is currently chief executive officer of One Mind of Research, a non-profit organization.

Chiarelli has held a variety of military positions, including senior military assistant to the secretary of defense; commander of the Multi-National Corps in Iraq; commander of the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood, Texas and in Iraq; U.S. Army chief of operations, training and mobilization; and executive officer, Supreme Allied commander Europe.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in political science from Seattle University; additionally, he holds two master’s degrees in public administration and in national security and strategies studies from the University of Washington and from the U.S. Naval War College, respectively.
