Raytheon nets two software contracts totaling $53.6M to enhance radars

Raytheon Co. has won two U.S. Navy contracts totaling $53.6 million to enhance dual band radar system software, the company reported.

Under the terms of the contract, Raytheon will optimize the radar's power efficiency and prepare it for testing and evaluation.

The dual band radar system is the “first U.S. naval radar system capable of simultaneous, coordinated operation across two frequency ranges," said Kevin Peppe, vice president of Raytheon’s integrated defense systems' seapower capability systems.

The radar system provides air defense via advanced surveillance of environments and is important for ship self-defense. It is the multimission air defense radar for the USS Gerald R. Ford aircraft carrier, which is still under construction.
