General Dynamics names former SAIC exec to intell systems post

General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems, a business unit of General Dynamics Corp., has hired Edward Timmes Jr. as its vice president of the intelligence systems business in the Cyber Systems division.

Timmes, who joins General Dynamics from Science Applications International Corp., will lead an organization focused on providing customers, partners and teammates with innovative solutions designed to harden systems, reduce vulnerabilities and defend against cyber attacks, the company’s June 26 announcement said.

The unit’s core capabilities include data acquisition and analysis, systems integration and analysis, cyber situational awareness and real-time analytics.

Additionally, the Intelligence Systems business offers digital forensics, network incident response and remediation capabilities to commercial customers as they protect and defend their enterprises from sophisticated cyber threats.

Timmes received a master’s degree in Business Administration from Mount St. Mary’s College in Emmitsburg, Md., and a bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta.

He serves on the board of directors for the Central Maryland Chapter of the Armed Forces Communications and Electronics Association (AFCEA).

General Dynamics Corp., of Falls Church, Va., ranks No. 6 on Washington Technology’s 2012 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
