ManTech wraps up purchase of cybersecurity software company

Officials say combination of firms will create a broader cyber solution capability.

ManTech International Corp. has completed the acquisition of HBGary Inc., a Sacramento, Calif., maker of software products to detect, analyze and diagnose advanced persistent threats and targeted malware.

HBGary, which has customers in the financial services, energy, critical infrastructure and technology sectors, will become part of a new commercial business unit within ManTech’s Mission, Cyber, & Intelligence Solutions group led by Senior Vice President of Cyber Strategy Ken Silva.

Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed in the April 2 announcement, which said only that the company used cash available to finance the acquisition. The purchase was announced in February.

“The combination of ManTech and HBGary will create a broader cyber security solution capability for both our commercial and government customers,” L. William Varner, president and chief operating officer of ManTech’s Mission, Cyber and Intelligence Solutions group, said in the announcement.

ManTech said the transaction is not expected to have a material impact on the company’s 2012 financial results.

ManTech International, of Fairfax, Va., ranks No. 22 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
