Northrop nabs $189M DISA cyber task

Northrop Grumman Corp. has won a $189 million contract to support the Defense Information Systems Agency’s cybersecurity efforts.

The company will be implementing the host-based security system across the Defense Department and intelligence agencies. The HBSS is part of DOD’s Information Assurance and Computer Network Defense contract.

Northrop will provide software license management support, training, help desk and architectural infrastructure support personnel, according to a company announcement.

The task order was awarded under the Encore 2 contract and has a three-year base and two one-year options.

HBSS is a commercial suite of software that provides security on desktops and laptops instead of on the boundary such as routers and switches. The suite of software was mandated in 2007 for use across classified and unclassified networks.

Northrop Grumman's teammates on the contract include McAfee and CDWG.

Northrop Grumman has worked on the deployment of HBSS since 2008. The company recently completed deployment of HBSS 3.0 across 263 active duty Air Force bases and Air National Guard sites around the world, the company said.

The company is ranked No. 2 on Washington Technoloyg's 2011 Top 100 list of the largest government contractors.
