IBM wraps up DemandTec acquisition

IBM has completed its acquisition of DemandTec, a San Mateo, Calif.-based provider of cloud-based analytics software. Financial terms of the deal were not reported.

The acquisition further extends IBM’s Smarter Commerce initiative by adding cloud-based software for measurable pricing, promotion and assortment planning, the company said in its Feb. 15 news release.

DemandTec also expands IBM’s Software-as-a Service strategy by adding additional subscription-based offerings to its SaaS solutions portfolio, the announcement said. With the closing of the acquisition, approximately 350 DemandTec employees join IBM’s Software Group, which is a key driver of growth and profitability for the company.

DemandTech was one of three major purchases Big Blue announced last month. The other two were Cúram Software Ltd., of Dublin, and Emptoris Inc., a Burlington, Mass.-based provider of cloud and on-premise analytics software.

IBM, of Armonk, N.Y., ranks No. 21 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
