George Newstrom named GM in Dell fed biz realignment

Dell Inc. is realigning its federal business into a single, tightly aligned unit to better leverage different lines of business and services in the federal space, the company announced today.

The new Dell Federal organization is designed to take advantage of best practices, build core competencies, and help Dell to remain a top contractor in the federal space, the Feb. 3 announcement said.

As a part of this realignment, Chuck Lyles has been named vice president of Dell Services Public Sector, overseeing the Dell Services offerings in the federal, state and local, and education sectors.

To help lead the newly streamlined Dell Federal organization, George Newstrom has been named general manager of Dell Services Federal Government.

Dell hired Newstrom late last year as the executive director and general manager for Dell Services Federal Government’s defense and national security business.

Previously, he was president and COO of Lee Technologies. Under then Gov. Mark Warner, Newstrom served as Virginia’s secretary of technology.

He will join Jere Carroll, the newly named general manager of Dell Federal Civilian and Joe Ayers, vice president and general manager of Dell Federal Defense.

They will comprise the Dell Federal leadership team that will manage the day-to-day Dell Federal business.

Dell Federal is focused on meeting the needs of government customers and partners, helping them modernize and operate more efficiently within the constraints of heavy regulation and tightening IT budgets.

Dell on Feb. 2 named John Swainson president of the newly created Software Group.

Dell Inc., of Round Rock, Texas, ranks No. 15 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
