General Dynamics' specialized computers going to Navy, Australia
General Dynamics Corp. will supply specialized computers to the U.S. Navy and the Australian Air Force under a $20.5 million modification to a previously awarded firm-fixed-price contract, according to a Jan. 27 Defense Department announcement.
Under the terms of the modification, General Dynamics’ Advanced Information System unit in Bloomington, Minn., will meet the full-rate production of 80 Type-3 Advanced Mission Computers (AMC) for the Navy’s F/A-18E/F and E/A-18G aircraft.
In addition, three Type-3 AMC spare units will go to the Royal Australian Air Force.
The work, which will be performed mostly in Bloomington and also in Albuquerque, N.M., is expected to be completed in December 2012.
This modification combines purchases for the U.S. Navy of $19.9 million, or 96 percent, and the government of Australia, at 4 percent, under the Foreign Military Sales Program, the DOD announcement said.
The Naval Air Systems Command, Patuxent River, Md., is the contracting activity.
General Dynamics Corp., of Falls Church, Va., ranks No. 5 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
