SAIC lands $1B DLA award for supply chain services

Science Applications International Corp. has won a seven-year Defense Logistics Agency contract that could be worth more than $1 billion to provide supply chain management services.

The single-award, task order contract calls for SAIC to manage the supply chain of land and aircraft tires used by the U.S. Armed Services and foreign military sales customers, according to a Dec, 5 company announcement.

Under the contract, SAIC will provide supply chain management services, including forecasting, procurement, inventory management and worldwide distribution of military aircraft and ground tires directly to DOD and foreign military sales end-users.

DLA's Tire Successor Initiative (TSI) allows the government to benefit from the latest commercial supply chain management technologies and business practices for improved customer support at the lowest possible cost, the SAIC announcement said.

The TSI program also includes managing the Air Force's tire life-cycle cost program and the supply of aircraft tire retreads, scrap pick-up, recycling and disposal.

SAIC, of McLean, Va., ranks No. 6 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.

I wonder if SAIC has an RFID system in place to provide the inventory management. It would be the way to go. Ken
