CGI to build health insurance exchange for CMS

CGI will develop CMS’ Federal Exchange as mandated by the Affordable Care Act.

As the Affordable Care Act expands in 2012, CGI Federal Inc. will build the government’s facilitated health insurance exchange for the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services under a five-year contract that has an estimated total value of $93.7 million.

CGI has received the initial $55.7 million base contract from CMS’ Center for Consumer Information and Insurance Oversight to build the government mandated Federal Exchange, the company said in a Dec. 1 news release.

The U.S. subsidiary of CGI Group Inc. will work with CCIIO to develop and implement the Federal Exchange in line with the ACA provision that requires the creation of a competitive health insurance marketplace for states and territories to help bring insurance coverage to 34 million additional Americans, the announcement said.

CGI Group Inc., of Montreal, Que., ranks No. 41 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
