Alion’s geospatial expertise expands Army’s knowledge center

Alion Science and Technology Corp. will provide the U.S. Army Geospatial Center with geospatial expertise under a $6 million contract, the company said in a Nov. 28 announcement.

The Geospatial Center is the Army’s knowledge center for geospatial information, which can encompass details that include terrain, roads, geological information, presence of water, and the effects of the time of day or weather, the employee-owned technology company explained.

Under the contract, Alion will produce digital terrain and geospatial datasets, including validating the Army’s geospatial enterprise-enabled systems through experimentation, systems engineering and systems implementation plans.

The work was awarded as a task order under the Weapon Systems Technology Information Analysis Center contract with the period of performance through Sept. 1, 2014.

Alion Science and Technology Corp., of Fairfax, Va., ranks No. 51 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
