Harris continues groundwork for AF satellite program

Harris Corp. will continue to support the Air Force’s weather satellite system under a five-year, $25 million contract.

The award from the Air Force Space Command Space and Missile Systems Center stems from the General Services Administration’s Alliant contract vehicle, according to a Nov. 16 Harris announcement.

It calls for Harris to sustain the ground system for the Defense Meteorological Satellites Program. The contractor will maintain software and hardware, and support compliance with information assurance requirements.

Harris is the original developer of this ground system, providing engineering, upgrades and maintenance support for more than 40 years, the announcement said.

The Harris team includes subcontractor Lockheed Martin Services Inc.

Harris Corp., of Melbourne, Fla., ranks No. 13 on Washington Technology’s 2011 Top 100 list of the largest federal government contractors.
