Michael Dell speaks out on HP PC spinoff

Hewlett-Packard Co.'s possible decision to spin off its PC business unit into a separate company will buoy Dell Inc.’s place in the industry, Chairman and CEO Michael Dell told a large group gathered during a recent keynote presentation in London, writes Andrew R. Hickey of CRN.
Attempting to capitalize on HP’s predicament and prove that hardware still matters in the marketplace, Dell tweeted that that company “plans to stick by customers and partners through HP’s transition,” and told CRN that it will continue to work with partners to “take on” the PC industry.
According to the Register, Dell sees HP's surprise exit from the field as an opportunity – and “that his company is well-placed to take advantage of the new gap in the market.”
Meanwhile, HP executive Todd Bradley warned partners of the Personal Systems Group not to give in to competitors trying to weaken HP’s relationships.
HP is ranked no. 7 and Dell is ranked no. 15 on Washington Technology's 2011 Top 100 contractor list.
